Jacqueline Harvey has combined a successful career in education with her love of a good story. She is the author of 14 novels for younger readers and a picture book, THE SOUND OF THE SEA, which was awarded Honour Book in the 2006 Children’s Book Council Awards. Her bestselling Alice-Miranda series centres on the life of Alice-Miranda Highton-Smith-Kennington-Jones, a perpetually positive and determined seven year old who takes herself off to boarding school because it appeals to her sense of adventure. The first book in the series, Alice-Miranda At School was released in Australia in February 2010 with Alice-Miranda On Holiday, Alice-Miranda Takes the Lead, Alice-Miranda At Sea, Alice-Miranda In New York, Alice-Miranda Shows the Way and Alice-Miranda In Paris following at six month intervals. A new adventure is on its way!

Hello Friends,
I have been a little quiet on my blog lately because I've been terribly busy helping my best grown up friend Jacqueline Harvey finishing my latest adventure, Alice-Miranda In New York. It's almost done and I can't wait until it comes out in Australia in February next year. It seems like a way off but when I think about it, it's less than four months. Time flies! New York was great fun and there were lots of unexpected adventures - it truly is the most amazing city. I can give you a sneak peak of the cover. That's me in Central Park - which really must be the best park in the whole world.
Have a wonderful week!
Lots of love,

Visiting Camden South Primary School Fete

Hello Friends,

Next Saturday my best grown up friend Jacqueline Harvey is visiting her old Primary School, Camden South Public School to be a guest at their fete. She is hoping to meet lots of my friends and will be there from 11.30am to sign books. She is very excited to go back and see what the school looks like and maybe even catch up with some of her old friends too. All of my stories will be on sale. I've found an old school photo of Jacqueline from Year 4 which I've pasted below - I wonder if you can work out which one she is?

I hope you're having a great weekend. Jacqueline and I have been very busy working on a new story.

Best wishes,

Alice-Miranda is in Indonesia

Hello Friends,

I am so excited that recently my first two adventures have been published in Indonesia. I've already made quite a few lovely friends from there and my best grown up friend Jacqueline Harvey is enjoying getting emails from new readers. Unfortunately my Bahasa is lacking and so I can't read these stories myself but from what the Indonesian readers have said they seem to be enjoying the books. The covers are gorgeous. I have posted copies of them here. I have lots of photos as girls dressed as Alice-Miranda for Book Week which I will post as soon as I make sure that the parents are fine with having their daughters' pictures up. I hope you have a great week.

Lots of love,

Alice-Miranda xx

PS I have some really big news to share soon - but I can't tell just yet!

Hello Friends,

I'm so excited that this week is Book Week and lots of my friends are having special celebrations about books and reading at their schools. My good friends Ruby and Lauren have dressed up as me! They look adorable in their Winchesterfield-Downsfordvale uniforms. I'd love to see your photos from Book Week. You can send them to jacqueline@jacquelineharvey.com.au

National Book Shop Day

Hello Friends,

I hope you're having a good weekend. My best grown up friend Jacqueline Harvey has had a really busy day visiting four fabulous bookshops for the first ever National Bookshop Day. At 9am she headed to Lindfield Bookshop where she met quite a few gorgeous little girls who are great friends of mine. Then at 11am she was at The Children's Bookshop in Beecroft which was really buzzing with loads of children and fantastic authors, John Larkin, Belinda Murrell, RA Spratt, Christopher Cheng and the amazing illustrator Sarah Davis. From there she managed to stop for a lovely lunch hosted by the Random House publicist Dorothy, who is a superstar! Then Dorothy and Jacqueline drove over to Shearer's Bookshop at Leichardt where Barbara and Tony were having a day full of visiting authors. Jacqueline got to answer some questions about my stories and also unveiled her name on the wall of authors. She had hoped to meet Ray Martin but he couldn't come (she suggested I should try and solve that mystery, which Barbara thought was a good idea). Lastly Jacqueline headed over to Better Read Than Dead in Newtown where she met some very enthusiastic little girls who love my stories. I think she needs to have a big rest tonight! I hope you had a great National Bookshop Day and I'm sure that it's an event that will just get bigger and bigger. Reading is one of my most favourite things to do - and writing too. I hope you're reading something fun.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Lots of love,
Alice-Miranda xxx

This is Ffion - one of my friends and I know she made my best grown up friend Jacqueline Harvey smile!

Alice-Miranda At Sea Launch!!

Hello Everyone,

What a day we had yesterday on sparkling Sydney Harbour! 180 of my friends came along to help us launch, on a launch, my fourth adventure, Alice-Miranda At Sea. There was a delicious afternoon tea with sandwiches and slices and cakes. The weather was calm and my best grown up friend Jacqueline Harvey signed LOTS of books - although she said she felt a little seasick for a while from looking down for so long. We even had a celebrity with us onboard, former Australian test cricketer and all round lovely guy, Glenn McGrath and his gorgeous daughter Holly and wife Sarah. Holly is a fan of the books. It was great to see so many people and I really want to thank everyone who came along and supported us. Linsay Knight from Random House who publishes the Alice-Miranda books did the official honours and the wonderful people from the Novella Bookshop sold all the books and arranged the launch. Jacqueline's fabulous editor Kimberley Bennett was there too and so were lots of her family and friends. I can't wait to start planning the next launch - which we are going to hold on top of a skyscraper!

Have a great week,

Lots of love,

Alice-Miranda featured in this month's Girl Power and Total Girl Magazines

Hello Friends,

I am so excited - today is the official launch of Alice-Miranda At Sea and I can't wait to meet everyone. We're heading off on a ship on Sydney Harbour at 2.30pm and it's going to be amazing (but the tickets are all sold out so please don't come unless you have a booking - I would hate to disappoint anyone). I wanted to let you know that I was reading Girl Power the other day and was surprised to see my stories and my best grown up friend Jacqueline Harvey featured inside - and on the back cover. We are also featured in Total Girl but it's mostly a story by Jacqueline about how to write stories - she's been teaching me and I hope to have some exciting news about that soon. I will post some photographs after the launch. Have a great day!

Love,

COMING SOON Alice-Miranda At Sea

Hello Friends,

It's been a really busy week. I'm very excited that my new book Alice-Miranda At Sea will soon be launched - quite literally as we are holding the launch on a boat on Sydney Harbour on Saturday 6 August. There will be more details about that as soon as the official invitation is ready. This week my best grown up friend, Jacqueline Harvey sent the manuscript for my fifth adventure, Alice-Miranda Takes Manhattan to my special friend Linsay Knight at Random House. I can't tell you too much yet but we had a lot of fun in New York and you won't believe some of the people I met!

I think it's almost time for bed - it has been a rather exhausting week.

Have a great weekend and I'll see you all soon.

Hello Friends

Hello Everyone,

I am so excited. Aunt Charlotte's wedding is fast approaching and I'm going to be a flower girl. I can't tell you where the wedding will be yet because it's a secret. Poor Uncle Lawrence is always being photographed by the paparazzi and I'm sure that he and Aunt Charlotte would prefer to have their wedding as a private family affair. I do know that Aunt Charlotte and Uncle Lawrence are inviting Millie and Jacinta and Sep too. Of course Lucas will be there because Uncle Lawrence is his father. I can't wait. Have a wonderful week and I'll give you some more details as soon as I can.

Love and best wishes,

Jacqueline Harvey at the Sydney Writers' Festival

Hello,

My best grownup friend Jacqueline Harvey is teaching a workshop tomorrow at the Sydney Writers' Festival which she's very excited about. She's talking to adults about how to write for children. I think it's great when authors ask children what they like to read. It might even help them to write more books that children love. What are the books that you love?

I hope you're having a great weekend.

Best wishes,
Alice-Miranda xx

Book Launch - WOW!

Hello Friends,

It's been the most wonderful afternoon. Although it was very hot, more than a hundred people came along to celebrate the launch of my third adventure, Alice-Miranda Takes the Lead. I was so excited to meet lots of new friends and see many girls I know well. The afternoon tea was delicious. My best grown up friend, Jacqueline Harvey was very busy signing lots of books so she didn't get to eat her chocolate brownie or the bruschetta - but I enjoyed it all.

Thank you for coming.

Lots of love,

Alice-Miranda Takes the Lead

Hello everyone,

It's hard to believe that it's already the end of January. I have been rather quiet over Christmas and New Year - mostly because my best grown up friend, Jacqueline Harvey has been very busy helping me write a new adventure. Alice-Miranda Takes the Lead is in the shops today! I thought it wasn't coming until next Tuesday but today Jacqueline saw it in a lovely bookshop in Wahroonga NSW called Novella. I am so excited - the cover is very pretty. Last term at school the girls were telling me about a legend of a witch who lives in the woods. One afternoon Millie and I went out riding with a new girl, Sloane and our friend Madeline and let's just say that Bonaparte (my pony) wasn't on his best behaviour. I ended up far from home and I met a lovely new friend. Her name is Miss Hephzibah but I don't want to spoil the surprise if you'd like to read the book. We also had a play at school and I got to play one of the lead roles. Anyway, I can't wait to hear what you think about the new story. I promise I''ll write more often again now that school is back.

Lots of love,
Alice-Miranda xx

PS We are having special book launch afternoon tea at Reel on Redleaf cafe in Wahroonga on Sunday 20 February. All my friends are invited and I will make sure that there's an invitation posted on the blog.
